While I hope I corrected this misconception, it did come to my attention that there was a free FrameReader product from Adobe which folks can use to look directly at the doc files. It's available for PC MAC and UNIX(Sun, IBM, HP, SGI, DEC). A little searching this morning found the location on Adobe's server. ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/framereader/ Can someone at CNRI place a reference to this site on the Documentation page as well as a reference to www.adobe.com for the latest Acrobat PDF reader? -Robin ================= DOC-SIG - SIG for the Python Documentation Project send messages to: doc-sig@python.org administrivia to: doc-sig-request@python.org ================= From friedric@rose.rsoc.rockwell.com Wed Dec 18 16:37:17 1996 From: friedric@rose.rsoc.rockwell.com (Robin Friedrich) Date: Wed, 18 Dec 1996 10:37:17 -0600 Subject: [PYTHON DOC-SIG] TIM->PDF Message-ID: <199612181637.KAA29164@darwin.rsoc.rockwell.com> Anthony Baxter just uploaded a new version of the Reference Manual in PDF for *with* bookmarks and hyperlink crossreferences, etc. I just looked at it (http://www.python.org/ftp/python/doc/ref.pdf) in Acroread 3.0 and I was impressed. This is one of those nice things that falls out of our decision to use Framemaker for some documentation. In the area of the Library Reference however, we are talking of using TIM which is fine with me as long as we have the tools support to make it easy to use for all those folks writing modules. I would very much like to add the requirement that TIM be translatable to Framemaker format allowing us to generate typeset and bookmarked PDF files. A Lib.pdf would be very cool. (I'm not volunteering to write it, although it's quite doable). Is anyone thinking of spending time on the TIM version of the Lib manual? I'd like to see this at least started;-) -Robin F. ================= DOC-SIG - SIG for the Python Documentation Project send messages to: doc-sig@python.org administrivia to: doc-sig-request@python.org ================= From monty@tbyte.com Wed Dec 18 17:39:24 1996 From: monty@tbyte.com (Monty Zukowski) Date: Wed, 18 Dec 1996 09:39:24 -0800 Subject: [PYTHON DOC-SIG] TIM->PDF Message-ID: >>I would very much like >to add the requirement that TIM be translatable to Framemaker format >allowing us to generate typeset and bookmarked PDF files. I'm actually interested in learning that whole process, but I must admit I haven't been following too closely as to what you all want to do with the Library docs. I don't suppose it's in TIM already...
