[Distutils] pkgutil.extend_path and .pkg files

pkgutil is somehow connected to setuptools, so I assume this
is the right place to ask this question.

I'm exploring pkgutil.extend_path(), together with a pkg-file
somewhere on my PYTHONPATH.

I am wondering if it is somehow possible to interpret relative
pathnames in the pkg-file relative to the directory which
contains the pkg-file?
