We ask that you let us know today if you have facilitation ideas for the
upcoming Ontario Regional Contact Jam. Drafts welcome. If not you, perhaps
suggest someone else. (Also: Registration fees go up in less than two
weeks.)

Friday, April 19 to Sunday, April 21, 2019

Canada?s National Ballet School, 400 Jarvis St, Toronto, ON


Are you interested in teaching a workshop that will help us to find
elasticity and playfulness in the areas of community and consent? How could
your idea provide a different kind of environment, a laboratory, where
individual learning experiences come together in a shared way?

Some jumping off points:

   - Play with gender roles in the dance. Dance with someone in your own
   gender, then swap, then swap again, etc.
   - Find a partner. How can this not feel like the Farmer in the Dell? Or
   a call to torture?
   - Power dynamics. Who lifts who (big/small, strong/weak, s/he)? Who asks
   who?
   - What would a ?completely safe? dance look/feel like? Would anyone come?
   - What would an ?anything goes? dance look/feel like? Would anyone come?
   - What are the elements of risk? What are the elements of play? How can
   we integrate these? And should we?

If you have an idea inspired by something you?ve read above or a completely
different idea related to the theme, please submit your proposal (1 page
max) to laurie at lauriejdavis.ca and celiajanemcbride at gmail.com by January
18, 2019 with the following information:

   - Who are you? What is your teaching/facilitating/leadership experience?
   What is your CI experience?
   - What is your idea and how does it relate to ?playing with community
   and consent?? How will you execute your idea? Do you want a 60, 90 or
   120-minute class? Or do you care?
   - Would you be prepared to repeat the class at another time during the
   weekend?
   - Two references. Who can we talk to about your teaching style?
   - Anything else you think we need to know.

Ontario Regional Contact Jam 2019

This year?s three-day contact improv jam is Easter weekend: Friday, April
19 to Sunday, April 21, at Canada?s National Ballet School, 400 Jarvis St
<https://goo.gl/jbkDGO>, in Toronto. Doors open 9 am each day, and we dance
to midnight on Friday and Saturday, 6 pm on Sunday.

To get our early-bird prices, you need to pay this month. Prices rise on
Thursday, January 31 at midnight. (Registration includes three lunches and
snacks, all workshops and activities, and continuous open jamming. Price is
$100 if paid in January; $120 in February; $140 in March; food not included
with Apri registrations. We encourage participation in the whole weekend,
but you may also pay $30 for each morning, afternoon or evening.)

As we head towards 300 attendees, it helps us plan for extra food and extra

Programming team

Celia McBride and Laurie Davis are curating and facilitating this year.
Right now they are choosing between 37 proposals. This year?s theme is Let
us Play: Shaping Community, Celebrating Consent.

They are looking to have more music, more snacks and more community.

Welcome to Toronto

About half our attendees come from out of town, and we hope to offer free
lodging to as many as possible. If you have a spare floor or couch, please
tell Dmitri at orcjhousing at contactimprov.ca.

Thanks to the exchange rate, you can attend the ORCJ for just $75 US if you
pay in January. That?s three large sunlit rooms for three days with three
meals and three snacks with nearly three hundred people for just three
twenty-five-dollar bills.

Toronto is convenient to the US Midwest and East Coast by car, bus, train

Open to every body

We welcome new dancers, non-dancers, people of all ages, sizes and shapes,
gender identities and sexual orientations, colors and cultures, mental and
physical configurations.

New to contact improvisation? We?ll have a total-beginner class on Friday
morning. (Included with the weekend; $30 for just that morning, including
lunch.) Following the class, participants can choose to attend more of the
jam.

The venue is wheelchair accessible, including common areas, dance floors,
and washrooms (manual doors). For those who request  attendant care, ASL
translation, or have other accommodation requests, please contact Henry at
henryhwai at gmail.com by Sunday, March 31, 2019 to increase the likelihood
that we can make arrangements.

To support dancers with sensitivities, we ask that you avoid scented
products at the jam (such as scented shampoos, deodorants, detergents,
dryer sheets,  incense, essential oils) and that you keep your dance
clothes away from pets.
