Date: Wed, 8 Jun 2011 10:13:24 +0200 Subject: [CI-Announce] Workshop "Poetics of Touch" by Karl Frost, June 29th- July 3rd 2011, Cardona/Barcelona, Spain References: Message-ID: <41FE5C1D-D90C-4594-8656-2E2D79E375B6@gmx.de> Karl Frost will be running a 4-day Intensive called ?The Poetics of Touch? from 29th June to 2nd July 2011 in Cardona near Barcelona, Spain. THE POETICS OF TOUCH This four-day intensive will focus on the art-making inside of the practice of contact improvisation. We use our base in the physical skills and sensitivities of contact improvisation to explore a kind of collaborative art-making of personal experience? the poetics of human contact. The workshop will look at the kinesthetic side of the dance and the somatic-psychological possibilities of touch and human interaction. The dance will be explored in terms of the felt experience of the dance, both for its own sake and as a potential source for stage performance? dance not just about repeating acrobatics, but looking at a sense of personal meaning within the dance. KARL FROST Karl Frost, director of Body Research(www.bodyresearch.org), has been teaching and performing contact improvisation and related work in body- based creative process since the 80s. He is known internationally for his dynamic and articulate movement style, his rigor in physical research and teaching, and for the edge-pushing nature of his work in both practice and performance. His work, influenced by studies in contemporary release technique, Alexander technique, martial arts, somatic psychology, and human ecology, has been showcased across North and South America, Western and Eastern Europe, and Israel. His performances take the body and emotionally and physically felt experience as their reference points. He is currently based out of Davis, California, where he is pursuing graduate studies in Choreography and Ecology. Some of his recent projects have included the Dancing Wilderness Project, the participatory performance works AXOLOTL, PROXIMITY, and BODY OF KNOWLEDGE, The Sierra Contact Festival, and Contact Camp at Burning Man.
