Friday, April 8th, 2011 Duration: 5 days / 5 hours a day Venue: Schwelle7, Berlin/Germany (adress below) Updates: http://www.schwelle7.de/JavierMurugarren.html REGISTRATION: xs4jan (at) gmx.de PRICE: 150 EUR +++ Unexpected dresses for undefined ceremonies +++ LABORATORY COSTUME PERFORMANCE ? development of SOLO work The primal idea of this laboratory is to address costume design technique and directly integrate it into development of performance parameters such as physicality, performativity and presence in the form of solo actions. The laboratory will be divided in two parts: 1 Costume design research A quick overview in the use an posibilities of sewing machines as well as simple design tips will be given at the begining of the workshop in order to give the participants a minimum autonomy to proceed by themselves. We will also investigate the potential of colors, tissues and forms and the hidden fascinating psychology these elements have. 2 Performance implementation During the second part of the day we will investigate the relation between the item in creation process and the performer in research. Here we will try to achieve two parallel dynamics where the development of the costume will affect the perception of the performer. At this point, the introduction of movement proposals, actions, discussions, readings, and individual coached investigations will give us the possibility of deepen into the imagery, form or antiform of our trip; always with the goal of achieving a plastic coherence. At the end of the laboratory we will review the material created by each participant in the form of a informal series of solo presentations. +++ javier murugarren +++ choreographer, performer and costume designer. Age Play for Sexually Precocious Adults Spiel mit dem Altersunterschied - ein Workshop f?r sexuell fr?hreife Erwachsene By MAGGIE TAPERT UND FELIX RUCKERT Playing with dominance and submission is an electrifying way to eroticizing hierarchy. Many archetypical scenarios of D/s role-play - boss/secretary, priestess/novice, teacher/school girl, daddy/boy - to name just a few - imply a difference of age and a context of education. In our daily life, hierarchy manifests itself unavoidably in age differences in a family structure or as seniority in a work context. Hierarchy is introduced quite naturally by date of birth or length of service. As children, perhaps we found ourselves involved in our first (nonconsensual!) D/s relationship with parents and/or brothers and sisters. These early experiences strongly imprinted the psyche and continue to influence the sexual and emotional relationships of our adult lives. It is extremely challenging, revealing and perhaps even evolutionary to play with some of these roles as adults in a safe, unthreatening environment. Age play can also be very hot and perhaps even healing. The roles of mother and father sometimes imply care and support. They may also trigger feelings of helplessness and complete loss of control. If dominant-submissive role-play is a form of ?consensual abuse?, this is most certainly the supreme discipline! Maggie and Felix may seem to have little in common but they share a keen taste for risk and adventure. They are joining forces in this workshop to collaborate on an exciting and provocative theme. No question about it, D/s role-play will be taken to a whole new level of intensity. Maggie, in her inimitable charismatic way, gives permission to be bad. And she brings to the game her enormous experience as a sexual healer. Felix lends tools and techniques from bodywork and theatrical role-play, as well as his knowledge of sadomasochistic practices. Come play with us. A grown-up workshop for the curious and brave! Maggie Tapert My personal quest for healing began in 1991 when my gynecologist discovered a large tumor growing on my right ovary. Although I confidently put myself in the care of traditional Western medicine, I knew I would need more than surgery to return to vibrant health. And so began a journey that took me around the globe and brought me into contact with some of the world?s most gifted teachers and healers. At journey?s end, I arrived at an understanding of the dynamics of illness and health and gained deep insight into the importance of living freely and passionately. My views on women?s health issues as well as female sexuality and spirituality were dramatically transformed. My personal healing path became the foundation of the teaching work that I have offered for a decade in workshops and private practice. After earning a Masters in Energetic Medicine from Dr. Robert Jaffe?s School of Energy Mastery in Sedona, Arizona, I continued to study the healing work of Barbara Anne Brennan, Caroline Myss, Chris Griscom and Elisabeth K?bler-Ross. Blending the healing modalities of these powerful women with my own intuitive understanding of the spiritual journey from illness to health, I established a private practice in Switzerland and worked with terminally ill cancer and AIDS patients. A longtime interest in sacred sexuality brought about collaborations with two renowned Tantric teachers who where working in Europe, John Bellicchi and Alan Lowen (the founder of The Art of Being*). Together with my women?s team, I created a modern day version of the healing temples that existed thousands of years ago. In the role of sacred prostitute, I had an opportunity to combine my intuitive knowledge of human sexuality with my skill in energy work to become a sexual healer. But my true calling immerged when I began focusing my energy specifically on female sexuality and started creating workshops exclusively for women. Releasing the confusion and sexual disorientation that is part of modern women?s regrettable heritage became the central theme of my work. I developed very simple and direct techniques to challenge and guide women out of their hopelessness and disappointment and into a rediscovery of sexual innocence and joy. Today, I teach a pallet of unique programs for women that range from weekend get-togethers to a yearlong intensive course called Wings of Joy?. My hands-on approach to sexual healing attracts hundreds of women each year, as well as referrals from couple?s therapists throughout Europe. Born in Detroit, Michigan, I have lived in Europe for over 30 years. I am a wife and the mother of two adult children and I live in Zurich, Switzerland. In 2003, Tim Luis my first grandson was born. Date: Thu, 10 Feb 2011 10:32:24 +0100 Subject: [CI-Announce] WORKSHOP: DAVID ZAMBRANO, Improvisation on stage, April 11-15, 2011, Schwelle7, Berlin/Germany Message-ID: <370F51AD-341F-4665-96BC-0B9C7704D5BE@gmx.de> DAVID ZAMBRANO: Improvisation on stage Monday, April 11th - Friday, April 15th, 2011 daily 12 am ? 6 pm Schwelle7, Berlin/Germany IMPROVISATION ON STAGE Learning to use one?s life experience, being able to consciously and continuously shape one?s energy integrating the body and mind, time and space through the practice of dance improvisation, students learn to create instant pieces of dance onstage in front of an audience. The workshop begins with students improvising solos, duets, and small groups utilizing the class as an audience. Zambrano pushes the students to realize that there is always something more inside and that performing is spontaneous. The students are urged to break down old habits to search for new possibilities. Change is vital to this training as the student is asked to constantly change their vocabulary into something new. How do you use your power? How do you redefine what you know, turn it on and off to explore something new? The student become more flexible as they learn to communicate within their bodies, the bodies of fellow performers, and the environment in which they are working. Zambrano asks his students to accept everything one can imagine, especially the impossible, and to learn to call upon them when creating an improvisation. PARTICIPANT?S PERFORMANCE David Zambrano and the students of the workshop will perform at Schwelle 7 Friday, April 15 th at 8:30 pm DAVIS ZAMBRANO ?My workshops are very physical. Whoever wants to take it, she/he must know that we are moving our thoughts all day.? (D.Z.) David Zambrano has been making dance for over 20 years. In his pursuits as both a creator and educator, Zambrano has visited 40 countries, worked with more than 25,000 students, and has performed at hundreds of venues across the world. His pieces range from set choreography, structured improvisation, and pure improvisation. Born in Venezuela, Zambrano spent 15 years in New York, and now lives in Amsterdam continuing to perform and teach worldwide. His improvisation is committed to art as a cultural exchange developing the creative process in a world without borders. Zambrano sees improvisation as an art and choreography as a vehicle to further develop his work in improvisation. Zambrano?s pursuits as an improviser, choreographer, and performer have been presented all over the world. The most notable examples of his original projects of both solo and group work include: Twelve Flies Went Out at Noon (2005), Barcelona in 48 Hours (2004), The Rabbit Project/Proyecto Conejo (2003), Mandraking (2002), David Zambrano Invites?(2000), Acme (1999), Ballroom (1996), Proyecto: Z (1994), Red Blink (1994), Agua Fuerte (1993), Cancion de Diente (1993), Sabana (1990), Fetiche (1987), and Para Carmen (1984). He also founded the Festival de Danza Postmoderna in Venezuela in 1989 and was its director until 1993. Zambrano?s methods in improvisation are influenced by the training he teaches around the globe. The most notable method is his Flying Low technique which examines the dancer?s relationship to the floor, earth, and ground. These techniques are very sought after by festivals, dance companies and schools including: Movement Research (New York), American Dance Festival (USA and Japan), PARTS (Belgium), La Caldera (Spain), Impulstanz Festival (Austria), Wim Vandekeybus/ Ultima Vez (Belgium), Sasha Waltz and Guests (Germany), New York Dance Intensive (USA), AREA (Spain), The School for New Dance, Development (Holland), Dansens Hus (Denmark), Rosas (Belgium), La Anonima Imperial (Spain), Danza Abierta (Cuba), Danza Combinatoria (Cuba), Retazos (Cuba), Espacio Alterno (Venezuela), Neodanza (Venezuela), Taller de Danza Contemporanea de Caracas (Venezuela). Through movement and hands-on partnering we will open perceptions of self, increase physical potential and expand our choreographic choices. Participants are invited to enter their animal-like appetites and childlike curiosities for physical investigation through engagement of the sensorial body. Week 1 Embodied Developmental Movement and Dance July 13-16 Five hours a day, Wed-Sat, Saliq Savage with Jen Polins Arrival Tuesday, 12.7, after 5:30 pm, Last session ends Saturday evening 16.7 140? workshop fee, 120? standard room and board We will explore the developmental movement patterns and reflexes as developed by Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen to expand the range and articulation of our physical expression. By exploring these patterns, which are beneath technique, we can build new neurological connections in the lower brain, tap into the power of physiological flexion and extension, transform how we use our eyes, and attune to our own instinctual comfort. We will apply our movement explorations to dance improvisation and composition. Keywords: Deep compression, lateral line, turning towards and making headway. Week 2 Embodied Anatomy and Dance July 18-22 Six hours a day, M-F, Saliq Savage, Jen Polins, Olive Beringa and Otto Ramstad 210?, 6 nights, 145? standard room and board Arrival Sunday, 17.7 after 5:30 pm, Last session ends Friday evening 22.7 We will explore embodied anatomy through the systems of the body (bones, organs, ligaments, fluids, endocrine, nervous system, senses and perception) and investigate how these systems in-form our dance and performing practice. By allowing for a greater modulation of tone we expand our choices in movement and perception. Together we will cultivate a vitality of presence and an embodied intelligence that will put guts in our dancing. We will investigate the subtle and radical qualities that somatic work can offer to our performing and choreographic practices, building scores for performing solo, duet and group dances. Week 3 Symposium: Applying BMC to the Creative/Creation Process July 25-30 Facilitated by Jennifer Polins, Saliq Francis Savage , Otto Ramstad and Olive Bieringa Presenter?s fee 150? to cover standard room and board. Participant?s fee 250? inclusive of standard room and board. Work study and Scholarships available. Arrival Sunday, 24.7, after 5:30 pm, Last session ends Saturday evening 30.7 This experimental/experiential symposium is devoted to research into the use of Body-Mind Centering? in the creation of dance. Individuals or collaborative teams will present their work in a variety of formats: group exploration, performance showing, video documentation, lecture demonstration and discussion. We are offering 8, 2 hour time slots. All participants please send a brief statement of interest to saliq at wiremonkeydance.com. If you are interested in presenting include a description of your research focus to saliq at wiremonkeydance.com by March 25, 2011. The DanceSomatics conference is happening during the final week of the Ponderosa TanzLand Festival. There will be an opportunity for exchange and connection with Ponderosa TanzLand Festival participants and teachers and an opportunity to perform in the Performance Marathon Weekend July 29-30. BIOS Saliq Francis Savage and Jennifer Polins have co directed Wire Monkey Dance for the past 12 years where they have created a dance hybrid, merging the somatic practices of Body-Mind Centering?, Improvisation, Contact Improvisation, Modern and Aerial Dance. Wire Monkey Dance is known for its highly physical dance installations utilizing steel scaffolding and other industrial materials. They have shown work at Lincoln Center Out Of Doors, Dance Theater Workshop, Jacob's Pillow, Cyclorama at the Boston Center for the Arts, Ponderosa TanzLand Festival, Stolzenhagen Germany, and WACFEST and Macau Fringe Festival, Macau, China. They receive grants annually from local Arts councils and have twice been finalist for the Mass Cultural Council Artist Fellowship. They are currently working on a new installation with videographer Yoann Trellu at A.P.E. Window Gallery in Northampton MA, to premiere April 26, 2011. Olive Bieringa and Otto Ramstad, co-directors of the BodyCartography Project, investigate the physicality of space in urban, domestic, wild and social landscapes through dance, performance, video and installation work. Their works range from intimate solos for the street or stage, to large community dance works in train stations, short experimental films in national parks, to complex works for site or stage amidst installations of video and sound. As certified practitioners of Body-Mind Centering? a somatic approach plays a primary role in the construction and performance of their work which has been presented across the USA, Canada, New Zealand, Japan, Europe, Russia and South America. Recent projects include Symptom, with Minnesota twins Emmett and Otto Ramstad, Mammal, a commission for the Lyon Opera Ballet, ? Life, a performance and installation with physicist Bryce Beverlin II, visual artist Emmett Ramstad and composer Zeena Parkins. They are featured artists in the first book about site dance in the USA published by University of Florida Press titled Site Dance, the Lure of Alternative Spaces.
