Twelve is also the size the Romans made their original shirt boxes, and 
they fit 4x3 in wagons.  Napoleon would later try to change the size to 
10, fitting into wagons 10x10, but this did not prove popular because it 
was hard to find 1000 people who wanted to buy the same shirt.  And so 
things went back to the 4x3x12 convention, making 144.
