It's because 1 + 4 + 4 = 9, and 9 = 3 * 3, and 3 is a magical number.

It isn't widely discussed, but most screen printers are part of the 
Illuminati, so this stuff is pretty important to them.

I'm sure no one else wanted to give a reasonable answer because they 
were worried about crossing the Illuminati.
