You might want to consider that while choosing PyMite. You can also consider Micro Python https://github.com/micropython/micropython which is being rapidly developed. I didn't notice it too, it was added by the Pure Pelican Theme, I guess. BTW, AFAIK there are two ways that open source project handle copyright. 1. The copyright is assigned by all authors to the organization that maintains the project. Example is the GNU project. The copyright is assigned to the FSF. This involves paper work. See https://www.gnu.org/prep/maintain/maintain.html#Legal-Matters for more details. 2. The copyright is owned by the author itself, they just agree to distribute their work under the project's license. Examples include most other open source projects including the Linux kernel and Wikipedia. Here is a quote from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Copyrights The text of Wikipedia is copyrighted by Wikipedia editors and contributors and is formally licensed to the public under one or several liberal licenses. For more details visit the above link. For Chennaipy's website, we will be using the second approach. We will have a page with a list of contributors, individual contributions made by each author can be obtained from git's history. At the bottom of the page we will put up a text similar to Wikipedia's, without attributing to a specific person or organization. Text is available under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License. Your comments and feedback are welcome. Soft Drinks and Chips, (9 + 7 = 16) per head There are some logistic issues with serving the tea hot. Some venues might not allow vendors in, in that case we will have to go with option 2. I also would like to thank PSSI for offering to support us. But I personally feel that it will be great, if it is sponsored by people from within the Chennaipy community. The reason behind opening up the sponsorship was to create more avenues for people to contribute. And when more people participate and contribute the contributors get a sense of ownership and responsibility, resulting in a stronger community. The second way makes sense to me. I've made the required changes as outlined in the issue and sent a PR[1] for the website and updated the theme as well[2]. Also, I have a question: Since we are using submodules, what do you think is the right way of working locally? i.e. in ones own fork? I will fork the chennaipy website but the submodule for theme would still point to chennaipy's theme, right? I got a little confused with this and pushed a change to the theme project sans review. Sorry for this. Let us write a CONTRIBUTION document and explain these things there or even better lets put it in the README after discussion. Good Night all. I'm using Flask as the framework on the server side and i've just run into a problem. One can access flask uploaded files using the request.files ?[3]? dictionary which returns a werkzeug FileStorage object[ ?1? ]. The issue arises when I use the CSV module and try to read this. The smallest piece of code that causes this issue is: [...] @app.route("/", methods=["POST"]) def index_post(): payload = request.files["foobar"] lines = csv.DictReader(payload) for line in lines: print line break return redirect(url_for("index")) [...] This throws up an exception like so: ? ? Error: new-line character seen in unquoted field - do you need to open the file in universal-newline mode? After some ?[4]? reading up, I came to learn that this is because of a line ending problem and the way to fix it is by opening the file in `rU` mode. Sounds easy, but the problem is that I am working with a FileStorage object that is provided with werkzeug and not opening the file myself. ?I found, on one of the other mailing lists[2] someone with the same question but it seems like there wasn't an answer. Has any of you encountered this? Have you managed to fix it? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Basically, the issue was caused because the line terminators are *expected* to either be \r or \n. And saving it via excel seemed like it gave it a \r\n ending Firstly, I should thank Daniel who on the same[1] mailing list I linked in my first mail, spoke about writing an iterator/generator and replacing the \r\n with just \n on every line. With this, I just had a quick thought and tried it out. As the documentation for FileStorage[2] indicates, It is possible to do a `stream.read()` to get the current opened stream. So, all I did was to read the stream, split it at \r and pass it to the csv.reader function and voila! It worked. Here is the same piece of code, in working condition: [...] @app.route("/", methods=["POST"]) def index_post(): payload = request.files["foobar"] lines = csv.DictReader(payload.read().split("\r")) for line in lines: print line return redirect(url_for("index")) [...] That was just a hunch though, I wanted to know why it worked and why it didn't work initially and I ended up finding answers for both. 1. Why it didn't work Turns out there is this property called lineterminator[3] on the csv Dialect object that lets us specify a lineterminator. But under that documentation theres a small box that says, and I quote: "Note The reader is hard-coded to recognise either '\r' or '\n' as end-of-line, and ignores lineterminator. This behavior may change in the future." So it wouldn't matter even if I set the lineterminator and gave the csv a new dialect. the reader would just ignore it. 2. Why it worked The second question was why it worked when I gave the csv.reader class a list? Going back to the documentation for csv.reader[4], I found out that _csvfile_ can accept any _Iterator_ object as its input. I quote: "csvfile can be any object which supports the iterator protocol and returns a string each time its next() method is called ? file objects and list objects are both suitable." So overall it seemed to me like the csv.reader was looking for a \n lineterminator and saving it in Excel gave it a \r\n lineterminator which is why the initial exception was being thrown. When I split it by the \r and passed it in to the reader, it worked since the line endings would now have been simple \ns Hope this helps someone else. --- [1]: http://librelist.com/browser/flask/2013/7/18/filestorage-and-excel-file/#762ba54312006274ba80a09b7d59090d [2]: http://werkzeug.pocoo.org/docs/0.9/datastructures/#werkzeug.datastructures.FileStorage [3]: https://docs.python.org/2/library/csv.html#csv.Dialect.lineterminator [4]: https://docs.python.org/2/library/csv.html#csv.reader -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... He then went on to list useful python modules for testing, some of which are shutil - for copying files quickly subprocess - for running another process from your program, and monitoring its status, getting and using its output pexpect - for interacting with console applications logging - for logging, but where u can specify different levels of errors, like debug, error, warning and critical unit test- for writing unit tests regex - pep8 and pylint - for checking if your source code confirms to python coding standards traceback and pdb - standard python debugging libraries to step through your code. pywinAuto - for automating windows tasks, including installations ! Two other interesting things mentioned were image based automation and the difference between unittests and integration tests . In image based automation you automate windows tasks like clicking a shortcut, emptying the recycle bin by getting the object you want to automate by searching for it through its image, rather than through the windows api or some other dictionary/list. Unit tests are where you check each and every part of the code seperately for its functionality, error conditions etc. Integration testing is where you check one module of the code for its ability to work properly with other outside objects. Each module then acts like a black box, and you are more concerned about its working with other modules rather than how the module itself works ie: whats inside the black box The second talk was given by Rengaraj on Docopt. Doc opt is a python module used to generate an interface for your command line application. it also automatically generates a parser for it. I had some confusion on where this module could be used, so i went back home and checked it out. Basically, you can use it to easily create a command line program where you can give options like -v,-x -u,-uv, following your command. The great thing about doc opt is that it will then create a dictionary with your options as keys and the options the user put as values to those keys, so that you can easily find out the user input commands were. Its much much easier than other similar functional modules like opto parse. The only thing to remember with docopt is that the usage format has to be in the POSIX format for it to work The last talk was given by VijayKumar on a problem he solved at his company using python and some embedded hardware. He explained how at his company they were faced with the problem of keeping track of who had borrowed common resources and of getting the person who had borrowed it to return the resource after he/she had used it.After trying simple solutions like keepig a notebook, reminding people, and findsing that they did not work, they finally decided to use a tech solution. They used an rfid reader and put an rfid tag on each resource and linked it to a server so that they would know who had borrowed which resource. Python was used to interface and talk to the hardware, which included a reed switch, rfid reader, and the server. The python framework used was twisted, and one interesting thing was the idea of an event driven framework, instead of a blocking read/write framework. It was nice to see the actual hardware ,software and also a video of the system in action! Vijay also showed us the state machine of the system which showed the various states of the system and how it changed depending on the users actions. We need a web application with the following features. 1. one huge text area to get input text in any encoding 2. List of all 25 encodings available as option buttons to choose one. 3. A button with label "Convert to Unicode" After pressing the button, the text should be converted into unicode using the above mentioned python code/library. 4. The converted text should be displayed in another text area. Example : http://www.suratha.com/reader.htm This does the conversion using javascript. We ported this into python and now we need a web front end for python backend. Can anyone do this as a open source project?
