Brandon mentioned variable naming last night. 

Dan Saks[1] gave a presentation at Columbus Code Camp[2] about 
developing coding conventions for things such as but not limited 
to names and whitespace, based on empirical readability studies, 
not on opinions. It was a good presentation. Unfortunately, 
I don't see anything on this web site about that topic.
