Atom addresses a number of ambiguities in the RSS 2.0 spec.  See:

In particular, handling markup (particularly HTML) as the content of
tags is underspecified in RSS 2.0.

"Content syndication" is a fairly common term:  it has pre-internet uses
for stuff like "syndicated columns" in newspapers.  See:
