That's exactly what I thought as well and why I considered chaning my
compression settings.

We are talking about two different things: With scaling I mean that
processing times seem to increase with the number of processed files
instead of the amount of processed data. The systems with many
individually pretty small files perform worst compared to backing up
e.g. my VMs.

This doesn't apply here, the data in VMs and databases didn't change
drastically from one day to another. Borg is scanning the whole file
always as well and doesn't take differences between ZFS level snaps
into account or stuff.
