From mdavis2 at ucsc.edu Thu Nov 4 15:49:36 2021 From: mdavis2 at ucsc.edu (Marilyn Davis) Date: Thu, 4 Nov 2021 13:49:36 -0600 Subject: [Baypiggies] "Python For Programmers" online course starts Tuesday at UCSC-Extension, Silicon Valley Message-ID: "Python For Programmers" online course starts Tuesday at UCSC-Extension, Silicon Valley A new version of our online "Python For Programmers" course, opens Tuesday, November 9. https://course.ucsc-extension.edu/modules/shop/index.html?action=section&OfferingID=5591127&SectionID=7391485 You have access to videos, other online materials, and the instructor until Feb 8, 2022. I'm excited about this particular course because we will use our new, up-to-date videos, complete with moving diagrams for the difficult concepts. For this course, it is best to have some programming experience in any language. However, online we have a lot of time to work through the material. I have a reputation for answering all questions quickly and patiently because I like to help. --- Coming in January: Python For Data Analysis - Via Live Zoom 10 Thursdays 6:30 - 9:30 PM PDT. https://course.ucsc-extension.edu/modules/shop/index.html?action=section&OfferingID=6240437&SectionID=7448665 With the miracle tools: Python, Pandas, and Jupyter notebooks, we go from zero to analyzing data in this short class. It is helpful, but not required to know a programming language, and a little about statistics. --- All courses are hands-on with short lectures, and lots of relevant exercises, and, we study the solutions after some lab time. Questions are always welcome. Please come, and send students! Note that, due to Thanksgiving, the talk is on the third Thursday, rather than the usual fourth Thursday of the month. Agenda: - 7:00 pm - 7:10 pm -- Announcements - 7:10 pm - 8:15 pm -- Main talk DevOps Buzzwords Explained for a Python Audience This talk was inspired by a 2007 talk given at BayPiggies by Charles Merriam on web framework buzzwords and also by community interviews I recently conducted when considering a book proposal. This talk for DevOps buzzwords has been customized for the BayPiggies audience! The DevOps/SRE space is huge. So, the talk will be a high level overview of DevOps and SRE work that would be visible or pertinent to the Python community. There will be several demos of each of these areas within DevOps: Code, Test, Build, Deploy, Release and Measure. For simplicity, Ansible will be used for most demos where it can be applicable. And in the other cases, tools such as CircleCI will be used. Speaker Bio: Glen Jarvis Glen Jarvis has been a Web Developer, Informix DBA and DevOps engineer and manager for over 15 years. He has worked in companies such as IBM, Pandora and SiriusXM as well as helping to build several startups in the Bay Area that are still running today.
