Good points about access. I was thinking from a programmer perspective rather than a dev ops one, but since we’re there: Debian (and now other linux distros) has the etckeeper package, which will git commit changes to system configurations automagically.

Cool concept, and has saved more than one person’s bacon. There are likely analogous tools on other platforms.
