Peter,

I work at AltSchool, a private K-8 school in SF, as as a backend
engineer. We use Python for our Django backend and EmberJS for much of the
front end. As of now our teachers use Scratch and a few other programs to
introduce programming to the students. I haven't heard of any python being
utilized, although I've suggested iPython Notebook to many in our research
team and received quite a bit of enthusiasm.

I'll forward your information, but please get back to me with more
information about what you'd like to do. We are building an "expert
network" for mentors and guest lecturers to enrich our classrooms.

Also, for anyone looking for employment, please contact me, or check out
AltSchool.com, as we are currently looking for more talented developers.
We are currently building tools for the teachers, our operations team along
with a variety of hardware (wearables and audio-video) for research
purposes. As an engineer here, I've never been wanting for encouragement,
interesting and difficult work or a sense of worth. All of the problems
that we are working on have immediate implications for the teachers,
students or parents involved with the school so there is a sense of
accomplishment that isn't always available in other start ups.

Cheers,
Scott Garrison (longtime baypiggies lurker)
