What is a good way to start in this field( graphics and image matching). Any pointers to docs or references will be of great help. These datasets may be downloaded from MaxMind. Grab the GeoLiteCountry/GeoIP.dat.gz and GeoLiteCity.dat.gz files and unzip them in a directory corresponding to what you set GEOIP_PATH with in your settings. See the example and reference below for more details. https://docs.djangoproject.com/en/dev/ref/contrib/gis/geoip/ And as Gora said there are ubuntu packages available , use them . Would you please clearly state your problem, rather than giving out contradictory information in bits and pieces? Earlier you had said that the problem was on Ubuntu, but now it seems that it is on CentOS. Similar to the answer there, the normal thing would be to install the geoip package for CentOS, provided there is such a package. In this case, you should not need to set GEOIP_LIBRARY_PATH. If there isn't a CentOS package, and you installed geoip on CentOS yourself, you need to tell us where you installed it. This is rapidly going off-topic as it is not a Python issue per se. Message-ID: <6C39D8D9-4883-4BE4-8B53-3038BE477B11@gmail.com> Fellow Pythonists, I do realise this is a list for the Bangalore community. Being a very active list I felt posting it here would get the attention of Pune folks subscribed. My apologies if this is not the perfect place to post this message. I have been dormant from the time I send a mail to revive the Pune Python User Group. But every time I see how well Bangalore is doing it makes me wonder what is hindering us to do something too (thank you BangPypers). We need to meetup and thus this mail. I am proposing an agenda, do feel free to add to it and spread the word. Depending on the number of people who respond we will fix a location. Lets also fix a date in the coming two weeks or so. Proposed Agenda: - Fixing location and time for a regular meetup - Apppointing organizing members - Decide whether to dump the mailing list and continue the google group Cheers! I would like to thank InfoToros on behalf of BangPypers community. There were 10 ten people and we had one talk - Experiences using django-social-auth . We had mix of audience with beginners, intermediate users. I have recorded the video of the talk and processing will be done by tomo. We need volunteers to upload the video. Video will be given in a pen drive. Discussions ------ 1. People felt it is better to have meetup in well known places and rather than conducting new places every month. There were suggestions to have meetings in one place and 3 months meetups can take place in one place , next 3 meetups in another place. 2. Baiju informed ZeOmega will be happy to host BangPypers. 3. There was discussion about buying equipment for real time processing pycon videos[InPycon is right list to discuss]. 4. There were discussions about how to spread BangPypers meetup word and bringing in more participations. Talk started at 3:30 and ended at 4:30, then half an hour snacks + discussion. I can volunteer to maintain it. - Post all the up coming meetings as a blog post, so that people can subscribe for RSS feed or posts as email. - Apparently there are lot of people who don't follow bangpypers mailing list + meetup, so it easy if we can have twitter handle + facebook page + RSS feed which makes promotion easier. - Currently we have agenda where someone needs to prepare a talk and present. This can be tedious if I have tiring week, so if we post our meetup as a blog post and enable comments, people who will be attending can leave comment about their area of exposure in python. As a result people can come to meetup and after talk they can have general discussion. Today myself and Baiju were discussing about PyPy progress and how much PyPy is used in production. This can enable good discussion between beginners and experienced users. We can discuss in the mailing list and update the wiki page. People who are not in the mailing list can directly update the wiki. Wondering if it is a good idea to create a new one instead of reviving one of the existing blogs. http://bangpypers.blogspot.com/ http://pybangalore.blogspot.in/ blogspot has an option of serving it from custom domain, so we can use bangalore.python.org.in if we want. Firstly, I think the IPSS should have a single point of contact for a group. He or she can delegate to multiple people if necessary or required but that's not our business. Secondly, these are policy decisions for the website and to be discussed in a different forum like IPSS. In any case, not a regional group list. We should really get it going only after we solidify those. Otherwise, these decisions will be ad hoc and we might later have to revisit them. The book "Practical Django Projects" show the art of developing such robust applications in Django. However, if you consider the size and scale of sites like Ebay, then Python may not be the best option because of comparatively more memory consumption. There are a lot of successful web apps on Django. recruiterbox.com is one of them among the Indian ones. So its safe to assume that they have some of the worlds most talented Python programmers. Also if I had to do something like this, I would first invest time in building a boilerplate project that I can use anytime I want to when I have to start a new project and finish it quickly.
