From Barrett at stsci.edu Thu Jun 21 10:40:33 2001 From: Barrett at stsci.edu (Paul Barrett) Date: Thu, 21 Jun 2001 10:40:33 -0400 Subject: [AstroPy] PyRAF, Python command language interface for IRAF Message-ID: <3B320761.E9B3669E@STScI.Edu> We are announcing the availability of a beta version of PyRAF. PyRAF is a alternate command language environment for the IRAF astronomical data reduction package widely used in astronomy (Image Reduction and Analysis Facility; http://iraf.noao.edu ) PyRAF has been developed at the Space Telescope Science Institute to allow us and astronomers to use Python to script tasks written for the IRAF environment including STScI's software for the Hubble Space Telescope (STSDAS and TABLES packages (http://stsdas.stsci.edu). Furthermore, it also makes it much easier to integrate other software written outside of the IRAF environment. Information on PyRAF and how to download it is available from http://pyraf.stsci.edu Information about the implementation is available in the 8th International Python Conference paper: http://www.python.org/workshops/2000-01/proceedings/papers/white/white-greenfield.html -- Paul Barrett, PhD Space Telescope Science Institute Phone: 410-338-4475 ESS/Science Software Group FAX: 410-338-4767 Baltimore, MD 21218 _____________________________________________________ AstroPy mailing list - astropy at stsci.edu http://lheawww.gsfc.nasa.gov/~bridgman/AstroPy/
