There was a very long and painful process, the details of which I seem to have largely repressed by now (*), that led to the selection of this logo. This was many years ago now and this logo is widely used and accepted, so I think it's a bit late to change now. More generally, I think complaining w/o specifics is never useful in this sort of context. So please be specific about what is wrong with it if you feel that might be useful in any future evolution of the logo. - Stephan (*) I vaguely remember a lot of complaining, followed by a bunch of community contributions some of which were decent and some, well, weren't; then more complaining and heated discussion, followed by ominously quiet periods and more complaining. Finally the PSF board got involved and paid someone to create this logo. Or something like that. Oh, yea, I think the process also involved Guido getting really fed up at some point, which is how the PSF board got the job. Thanks for the effort Mike, but unfortunately the Photoshop .psd file is a raster/bitmap file, and at the scale of a banner it would be far too blocky. On OS X, Preview and Acrobat Reader both show the shadow correctly. It's very subtle though. It's a gradation between nothing at the edges and a very light grey in the center. If your display isn't set properly (e.g. if the brightness or contrast are too low) you may not even notice it. But the shadow is really not important, and it's not intrinsic to the logo. The shadow in python-banner.pdf (attachment to my July 2 message) does show up in Acrobat on my machine (OS X). The shadow is so subtle that it may be hard to notice. But converting between graphics formats often has issues. I don't know if there's a good solution. I encourage anybody who has Illustrator (I don't) to try things out. Don't know about which list to discuss on, but I've also run into various problems w/ gradients when using Inkscape to produce things. It is not exporting them correctly, it seems. I tried the latest Inkscape some months ago and also had the problem. May be worth trying the latest prerelease if you haven't already and/or checking their bug database. I'm glad I chose to make a large three foot by six foot banner (it was visible from the front door of the exhibit hall).
