Sr Software Developer/Data Engineer

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced software engineer to design, build, and maintain tools that streamline our research and development efforts. As an essential part of our data science team this role will help our researchers develop a pipeline of products to support the agricultural community.

The first responsibility of this role will be to build tools for our field team to ingest and register spatial data coming in from our field and agronomy team but has the potential to grow into a lead position managing multiple key projects.

Responsibilities: Independently design and develop data, software, or technology solutions to answer scientific or business questions. Demonstrate proficiency across a range of technologies related to programming languages, data integration, data warehousing, visualization, and analytics. Collaborate with research scientists to identify and understand their analytical and informatics needs and translate these into solutions. Communicate and collaborate effectively with colleagues in varied scientific and technical roles. Maintain a working knowledge of technologies, development tools, practices, methods and libraries relevant to software engineering and data science. Present projects and systems in front of both scientific and technical audiences.

Requirements

BS or MS in STEM discipline with 5+ years professional programming experience or 8+ years programming experience. 3+ years professional Python experience. Experience working on a data analytics team. Experience with GIS or chemometric data is a strong plus. Experience using a web framework to build large fully tested applications (Django, Tornado, Pyramid, etc.). Experience maintaining shared databases. Strong working knowledge of SQL best practices including but not limited to schema design, query optimization, and migration management. Working knowledge of Python science and math libraries such as Pandas, Numpy, Scipy, pytorch, etc. Experience running software in a cloud environment.
