About the Company

There are 37 million people living with HIV globally, over half of them in sub-Saharan Africa. PANGEA ( ) is a global consortium of researchers based in Africa, the US and the UK and funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Our mission is to understand what drives the African HIV epidemic and how to ensure that prevention measures reach the people who need them most.

At the PANGEA data hub at the Big Data Institute, University of Oxford ( ), we process large volumes of data using top end technologies including a high-performance computing cluster, dedicated high-memory servers, and a secure infrastructure. From partner studies and clinical trials we gather epidemiological and clinical data, and combine this with viral whole-genome data that we generate in our genomics laboratory. The data are collected, processed and presented to researchers as an essential starting point in their work.
