Mercatus Policy Research DESCRIPTION The Mercatus Center at George Mason University is seeking a Software Developer to join our Policy Analytics team. The Policy Analytics team works at the frontier of policy research, applying the tools of data science in the realm of public policy to advance our understanding of the causes and effects of policy decisions. In this role, you will be leading the day-to-day operations that help maintain and potentially enhance the QuantGov analytics platform, as well as facilitate cutting-edge research at the intersection of data science, economics, and public policy. This position reports to the Director of Policy Analytics.

Responsibilities include:

Create and build new datasets in support of the Mercatus research mission, including the Federal RegData and State RegData Write reusable, testable, and efficient code, and ensure your code fits into the existing QuantGov system Obtain and compile data from a variety of external sources Utilize data from QuantGov and RegData projects to produce analyses and visualizations to answer particular research questions Develop other tools and datasets

Requirements

Expertise in at least one programming language, preferably Python Strong statistical background

Particularly Strong Candidates May Have:

Experience with common data visualization toolkits, such as Plotly, D3, matplotlib, or ggplot2 Experience with SQL and/or NoSQL Basic understanding of economics, especially in application to public policy Familiarity with WordPress Familiarity with Docker Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS)
