Job TitleData Engineer
The Mercatus Center at George Mason University is seeking an entry-level Data Analyst to join our Policy Analytics Team. The Policy Analytics Team-a key part of Mercatus's Program for Economic Research on Regulation-works at the frontier of policy research, applying the tools of data science in the realm of public policy to advance our understanding of the causes and effects of policy decisions. As Team Manager, you will ensure the quality of other team members' code (primarily Python) and their data outputs, and you will help train and develop junior team members. This is an opportunity to lead a team that is at the forefront of the development of tools and datasets that facilitate cutting-edge research at the intersection of data science, economics, and public policy.
Oversee code review process Oversee design and architecture of policy analytics systems, including the QuantGov library Undertake or direct new natural language processing and machine learning projects to create innovative data products in support of the Mercatus research mission Maintain AWS infrastructure for data analytics products Oversee CI/CD pipelines Maintain data pipelines and ensure reliability Maintain database schema and implement and enforce best practices

Computer science, data science, or similar degree preferred, but not required Four plus years professional experience working in data science or analytics Proficient with Python, including common Python data libraries including pandas, numpy, and scikit-learn Proficiency with version control, preferably git Proficient with SQL and experienced in database management Experience with Amazon Web Services, particularly s3, Lambda, Batch, and RDS Familiarity with Docker Familiarity with the Scrum product development framework
