ILU has a nice extension called "custom surrogates".
It allows the raw CORBA objects to be wrapped by custom objects
providing additional functionality, e.g. Python list or
dictionary emulation.

I do not know, how wide spread this (or a similar) feature is in
other ORB's. It is very useful, though.
