Sounds pretty hopeless to me, I'm afraid. Both xmllib and xmlproc use
the re module, saxlib uses class exceptions (and has to) and I guess
the DOM does too. That leaves the C-based parsers and Dan Connolly's
more or less useless parser.

Personally, I wouldn't give it priority.
