I have not fully read the links yet, but I will. Let me clarify the situation if that will help. The data is from operating system performance counters collected from within a single system. For example, series A is operations per second and series B is latency. Both series are sampled every 1 second, but possibly with offsets from each other, and possibly with missing samples. The problem I am trying to solve is that I only want to see the calculated latency per op for sample periods where both series had samples and those samples' timestamps were less than 1 second apart. That is, if a latency time-stamp value is > between two Ops/sec time-stamp values, would you use it twice? Maybe. Originally I was thinking the answer was no, but I think allowing multiple matches makes sense to include more valid samples. If multiple matches are not allowed, using pandas to do the division between the two series is easier since their length will be equal. The manual algorithm is pretty simple but inefficient: For each element in series A, search series B for the match with the smallest absolute time delta provided it is less than the sampling interval. If there is not a match, eliminate it from the series. Repeat for series B. I am looking for a way to leverage pandas, numpy, or another new library to speed this up. If they are different 'types', then you would retain that value/data. You can do this without physically merging the two lists, but the code would more complicated to keep the two lists in sync - a matching/sorting merge problem variant. In terms of time spent in part it's up to you, but class goes from 9-12:30 Monday through Thursday with smaller projects to do throughout the week. On Thursday you're assigned a big project for that weekend. I found that I was there every week day till late, and frequently came in on weekends to work on the bigger projects. If you have anymore questions please ask away. Zach Huntington-Meath On Fri, Jun 19, 2015 at 7:34 PM, Luis I.
