What happened is this: before the Debian upgrade, we were using indexer_dbm. The upgrade installed the Python xapian module, which made indexer_xapian import correctly, making roundup switch to xapian. There still was a xapian index around for the tracker from the last time this happened (when I resolved this by uninstalling the Python xapian module). This index caused some searches to succeed and others to fail.

I have now decided to go with the Xapian indexing for this installation, and have regenerated the xapian index for all instances; I also cleared the __words and __textids tables since they should no longer be used.
