I installed Spam Bayes free but I have a problem. My default mail program is Outlook Express, but automatically Spam Bayes installed itself on Outlook. How can I force it to work with Outlook Express. Since I found Outlook Express more friendly than Outlook I'd continue to use it. Thanks in advance for your help and regards. You should most likely choose the POP3 proxy for Outlook Express. If you later decide to use Thunderbird or even Outlook itself, they also can use the POP3 proxy. However, nothing but Outlook can use the plugin. One major compatibility issue is spambayes-1.1b1 -- which is the reason why I'm writing to this l I'm not sure how py3k-compatible spambayes is at the moment. One major issue is setup.py: if sys.version_info < (2, 4): fails with py3k. Although there are numerous other incompatibilities, I want to ask you: - Whether there is any interest in developing spambayes (last release: 2011) - Whether there is any interest in making spambayes py3k-compatible. SpamBayes hasn't been actively developed in a while. What you want would require Python hackers capable of doing it. Are there folks involved with Mailpile that might be recruited? If there are folks involved with Mailpile that would be willing to take this on, they'd be welcomed with open arms. > Thanks in advance, > Uli ______ Dennis From fredex at fcshome.stoneham.ma.us Sat Apr 19 19:05:26 2014 From: fredex at fcshome.stoneham.ma.us (Fred Smith) Date: Sat, 19 Apr 2014 13:05:26 -0400 Subject: [Spambayes] Python3 incompatibility issues In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: <20140419170526.GA19832@fcshome.stoneham.ma.us> On Sat, Apr 19, 2014 at 12:00:36PM -0400, dmccunney wrote: > On Sat, Apr 19, 2014 at 11:31 AM, Uli K?hler wrote: > > > Although there are numerous other incompatibilities, I want > > to ask you: > > - Whether there is any interest in developing spambayes (last release: 2011) > > - Whether there is any interest in making spambayes py3k-compatible. sooner or later, all of us who use it will need that, once our favorite distro(s) stop shipping python 2. > > SpamBayes hasn't been actively developed in a while. Were I to know the first thing about Python, I'd be willing, but... I don't. GPGRelay connects with SSL to the provider, gets the mail (decrypts, if necessary) and gives it to Spambayes which hands it down to Thunderbird. GPGRelay provides encryption (PGP/GPG) to any email client. I prefer it to the internal encryption of Thunderbird, because I like to have the mails unencrypted within Thunderbird: http://sites.inka.de/tesla/gpgrelay.html You don`t need to use encryption if you only want SSL for Spambayes.
