I made a new TB profile that directly DL'd the mail from the server and deleted all messages older than one month from the server, but perhaps there could be a SpamBayes setting that does this. Or maybe there already is, and I'm just too dim to find it? I am using SpamBayes Proxy Version 1.1b2 (March 6, 2010) (binary), with version 2.5.2 (release25-maint, Feb 23 2008, 14:19:11) [MSC v.1310 32 bit (Intel)] of Python; my operating system is Windows 5.1.2600.2 (Service Pack 3), and Thunderbird 10.0.2. I have trained 712 ham and 459 spam. THAT part works great. I installed it back in the distant past when the TB addon didn't always install reliably. Thanks for a great tool. If your email client was setup to delete emails from the server, then the proxy shouldn't change that. (Of course that assumes there isn't a bug there that prevents DELE commands from getting through, but I'm not aware of this problem ever coming up before.) -- Richie Hindle richie at entrian.com http://entrian.com/blog http://twitter.com/richiehindle From dale at BriannasSaladDressing.com Wed Mar 7 20:28:15 2012 From: dale at BriannasSaladDressing.com (Dale Schroeder) Date: Wed, 07 Mar 2012 13:28:15 -0600 Subject: [Spambayes] Problem with SpamBayes Proxy: Mild In-Reply-To: <4F57A412.4000001@hvc.RR.com> References: <4F57A412.4000001@hvc.RR.com> Message-ID: <4F57B6CF.2020105@BriannasSaladDressing.com> Peter, SpamBayes doesn't do anything like that. It only categorizes email based on the training you give it. It places that categorization in either a header or on the subject line of the mail, depending upon how you have it configured. As it does not have these capabilities, your problem has to derive from the mail client or something else. In Thunderbird, check under Tools ==> Account Settings ==> Server Settings. Look for "Leave messages on server". If the box is checked, uncheck it, and you should no longer have a backlog at the ISP. If it is already unchecked, you will have to look for something else that may be causing the problem. The Spam Suspect folder is now not visible, and these e-mails that are moved do not go to the standard junk e-mail folder in Outlook. This is in a Windows 7 environment. It has been working until 3/14/12 when the Microsoft updates listed below were installed. If you could tell me which of the updates is the offender I would gladly uninstall it or perhaps you can offer some kind of workaround. I feel like I am lost without Spambayes. BTW, Spambayes is installed in c:\Spambayes as suggested. I've also tried several other Spambayes versions and I get the same result or they just won't install. Please Help! Has been working flawlessly for years. I moved to SoCal, and figured I could speed up getting my mail if I used the local Roadrunner POP3 server instead of one across the country. I added the new POP3 server in the config page, hit save, and got the same error as reported above: 500 Server error Traceback (most recent call last): File "spambayes\Dibbler.pyo", line 476, in found_terminator File "spambayes\UserInterface.pyo", line 883, in onChangeopts File "spambayes\ProxyUI.pyo", line 569, in reReadOptions File "sb_server.pyo", line 981, in _recreateState UnboundLocalError: local variable 'state' referenced before assignment Now what's really interesting is, I looked in *sb_server.py*, and the next line after "*def _recreateState():*" is already "global state" indented 4 spaces as requested. Hm. Now no longer pulling down new emails, even on the 'review messages' web page. I tried changing the POP3 server back, but no joy. I'm posting this ONLY FYI. I'm going to try reinstalling and see if that fixes things. Will post more if interesting. I love SpamBayes, have been using it for years.
