Hmmm...  Looks like asyncore (and probably asynchat) probably didn't make it
into the distribution.  I maybe have a messed up manifest.  I'll take a
look.

I have downloaded spambayes, but when I open Outlook I get a message saying
There was an error initializing the spam bayes addin. Please restart Outlook
and try again. I repeatedly get this message, and there are no spambayes
blocks on the upper part of the screen.

 

What shall I do to install the program properly?

What versions of Windows, Outlook and SpamBayes are you using?  Are the

I'm afraid I have bad (or at least not good) news for you.  It looks like
running on 64-bit Windows isn't well sorted out.  If you Google for
"SpamBayes x64" you'll see some threads related to this problem.  For
example:

Unfortunately, I suspect it will require some serious Windows mojo (which I
certainly don't have) to solve this problem.

I am using a Lenovo Laptop T61 32 bit with VISTA (soon to be changed to 
Win7). My mail server is Thunderbird v3.1.9. I tried to load SpamBayes 
and receive a message indicating it is not compatible with Thunderbird 
3.1.9. I got SpamBayes to work when I was back on the east coast using 
another computer so I am confident there is a work around. Can you help? 
(again) lol

Please try ThunderBayes++.  There is a link in the table on this page:

Note that the original ThunderBayes is outdated and doesn't work with TBird
3, as you discovered.

This sounds like a content farm to me.  Google recently got a lot of press
for recent changes to their search engine which dramatically lowered the
score (and thus placement in search results) of such sites.  Does anyone
here have any experience with yoexpert.com?

Or is this some other sort of scam?  I can't believe there is a company with
lots of writers just sitting around waiting to do us a favor.

Note also that the note I received specifically referred to the
spambayes.sourceforge.net website, not the wiki.

I still think the "offer" is likely to be a scam, or if not completely a
scam, an attempt to get their pages ranked high in Google searches so they
can sell more ads.

Yes.
I guess they haven't taken a look at the website. Prior research of their
targets would have yielded better results, if they were legit. Now it just
looks like a semi-automated mail based om some keywords they pulled from
sf.net.

Anyway: ONE good thing has come from it: the wiki was broken, now it's fixed.

(Sorry if this is a duplicate.  I fat-fingered something and my first reply
went away.  It doesn't look like it was sent, but stranger things have
happened.)

Unless I misunderstand what you're asking, SpamBayes has nothing to do with
how mail is received in your setup.  That's Outlook's job.  If you were
using the POP3 proxy things would/might be different.

I was aware that the POP3 proxy was unable to deal with SSL connections 
and different port.

I was wondering if the Outlook plugin had the same issues...

You can retrain from scratch.  There is the possibility that at some point
you made mistakes when training.  (I have done that many times myself.)
