This version should finally have the dreaded DEP problem fixed along with hopefully some other minor issues. It should also prompt for admin permissions which may address some issues with Windows 7. I've tested it with Outlook 2003 - the most recent version I have available. Please try it out and let me know how it goes. If it all goes well I will check in the minor tweaks I made to the source code to have it branded as 1.1a6 and dated March 2010. I recommend you uninstall the previous version before installing this one (but all your training and configuration data will be retained) http://starship.python.net/crew/mhammond/downloads/spambayes-1.1a6.exe Cheers, Mark. We at Kryptiva [1] are working on a data aggregator and mail indexer for Microsoft Outlook. It is called echotracker [2]. It is presented as a web page inside a panel embedded in Outlook. It is written for the .NET platform in C# and C++. We are currently looking for developers and courageous users to test our plugin and report bug inside the current developer preview version. We have a mailing list setup to receive the first bug reports. We are also looking at interoperability testing so don't hesitate to tell us about your own very weird setup with Outlook, Exchange and "friends". We thought that like minded developers might be happy to hear about that. A lot of what we learned about Outlook plugin were learned by looking at the few open-source plugin out there. We are glad they exists. First of all, if a user is downloading a large number of emails (when I've seen this occur, the user was downloading over 100 messages), SpamBayes will cause Outlook to crash. Rinse and repeat as often as you want, but Outlook will not download the messages without crashing unless SpamBayes is disabled during the message download. Once that's done, you can enable it. If a user only has a modest number of messages coming in, then Outlook does not crash. Secondly, the way emails are being displayed while being parsed is different. Under XP, all the messages downloaded would show up in the Inbox (you could watch them appear a few at a time), and then you could watch as individual ones got plucked out by SpamBayes. But under Win 7 x64, only a single message shows up in the Inbox. All other new messages are completely hidden until SpamBayes is done processing them, at which point they all show up at once. The way messages are showing up under Win 7 x64 is not a good thing. Perhaps it's related to why Outlook crashes if there are a large number of messages downloaded, but these are both issues that need to be resolved. In addition, I tried modifying the source in order to get SpamBayes to log to file instead. While it was confirmed that my changes should have worked, no one ever looked into why they didn't, and what needed to be done in order to fix that. If you (or someone else) can help me get logging to file enabled, I'd be able to provide more useful information. To reiterate: In "addin.py" located in the Outlook20000 folder, look for this section: ----------------- if hasattr(sys, "frozen"): temp_dir = win32api.GetTempPath() for i in range(3,0,-1): try: os.unlink(os.path.join(temp_dir, "spambayes%d.log" % (i+1))) except os.error: pass try: os.rename( os.path.join(temp_dir, "spambayes%d.log" % i), os.path.join(temp_dir, "spambayes%d.log" % (i+1)) ) except os.error: pass # Open this log, as unbuffered so crashes still get written. sys.stdout = open(os.path.join(temp_dir,"spambayes1.log"), "wt", 0) sys.stderr = sys.stdout else: import win32traceutil ----------------- ...and replace the last line, with the contents of the IF statement above it. I was nervous about removing the IF statement completely, so I simply made the ELSE statement match it. However, despite this change, no log file is ever created in the system's temp directory. If yes, what version? I just downloaded the Outlook 2010 beta and my most recent binary installer loads just fine on Windows 7 x64. I'm still struggling with getting Outlook working with my test gmail account, but suggesting it "won't load" seems premature - have *you* tried? Well, given the fact that I can run the Trace Collector from within SpamBayes, and it will show logging implies that it's definitely loaded (once I do it manually). However, I still can't run an external Trace Collector to grab startup logs, nor is a log file ever created with the changes I made to the source. No luck, I got an warning message about 2 unloadble pluigns, one was spambayes, the other one was an Microsoft Addon for mobile devices. (I never use(d) this). Next step was an deinstall, reg cleaner, and new install, no luck. (Vista 32) Maybe you have more luck. I'm afraid something here isn't correct - either the patches applied are incorrect meaning the logs aren't being redirected as expected, or the code isn't being executed. It wasn't obvious to me that your patch was incorrect, so I can only speculate it isn't being loaded - but if you have any other explanations I'd like to hear them... Alternatively, try again with the binary to confirm things work as expected, then move to the source version with no changes to ensure things *still* work in an identical fashion, and then make your code changes to change the functionality. That rules that out, leaving the only option to be trying to modify the source to allow file logging. I posted the exact changes I made. At this point, you'd have a far better idea than I as to why it would still fail to create the log files. But for what it's worth, in prior emails, I gave you some of the error messages that were being logged (via the internally run Trace Collector). The only thing I can think of is that those errors might be causing these issues - perhaps all of them (loading, executing, and logging). To my recollection, you never mentioned pursuing any of them. Perhaps they're worth looking into, at this point. > Alternatively, try again with the binary to confirm things work as > expected, then move to the source version with no changes to ensure > things *still* work in an identical fashion, and then make your code > changes to change the functionality. > > Cheers, > > Mark I did that with 1.1a4, at your request.
