I found many references to this error, but none of them seem to apply to
my specific situation - my apology in advance if I wasn't sufficiently
diligent
I've installed spambayes on two Linux FC3 boxes today - both have the
same problem
I use Thunderbird, and by following the instructions, I was able to get
the program installed, configure my mail client with appropriate
filters, and start using the configuration/training interface pages to
identify spam - it began working effectively very rapidly
Then, I shut down the configuration interface and that stopped my mail
from coming in
When I tried to reopen the the interface, I just get failure to connect
to port 8880 messages
On both installs, I've entered localhost in my mail client pop server
dialogue, kept the default port 110 for pop, and have chosen not to
configure outgoing SMTP
In the Spambayes configuration page, I only filled in the two boxes for
pop, entering localhost and port 110.
Now it would appear that my only option is to reset my mail client to
not use the proxy
Am I missing something painfully obvious?
Another thing I'm wondering is, it wouldn't let me install except from
root - is that the correct behavior?
Also, there was a line in the instructions about:
"You'll also need to move aside the standard "email"
library - go to your Python "Lib" directory and rename "email" to
"email_old".
This did NOT work unless I'm doing something completely wrong. I found
usr/lib/python/email and when I renamed it to email_old, the
installation wouldn't go forward.
Hope these aren't too many questions -
