And to be honest, the website is a bit confusing for muggles. I am learning myself to build websites with Drupal and I'm looking for a project to get some experience. I think I may have some spare time in the upcoming weeks. Is it OK if I try to make a concept for a new Spambayes website, in Drupal? My personal site is http://amedee.be Another site is http://tik.be. I haven't built that one myself but I was involved in its design and I am administrator on that site, so I know its inner workings quite well. Both sites are in Dutch. Let me know what you think of the idea. I know nothing about Drupal, but my only real concerns would be that the website remains text based in CVS/SVN, and that we need not rely on an individual's web server (ie, ideally the site can still be served by sourceforge or any other "vanilla" http server. Apart from that, I'd be happy to be an improved site. The website is also in Subversion, I didn't know that. It looks like these are static pages that are glued together with some html parsing script each time there is an update to the site. Is that correct? That's something completely different from a database-driven content management system... But what about the Spambayes wiki on http://www.entrian.com/sbwiki? As far as I can tell, that one isn't in Subversion. I think, whoever made that wiki several years ago did a great job with the technology that was available at the time. But I think that now the project website and the wiki can benefit a better integration. > and that we need not rely on an > individual's web server (ie, ideally the site can still be served by > sourceforge or any other "vanilla" http server. Sourceforge, check, that's not a problem. Just look at http://pysearch.sourceforge.net/ That is a project website in Drupal, hosted on SourceForge, and the project happens to be software written in Python, just like Spambayes. > Apart from that, I'd be happy to be an improved site. Oh whatever, I just need a project. I can make something for myself, and then you can still decide if you want to use it or not. If you're not going to use it, at least I had a bit of fun&experience in website building. -- Amedee From skip at pobox.com Mon Dec 8 02:46:31 2008 From: skip at pobox.com (skip at pobox.com) Date: Sun, 7 Dec 2008 19:46:31 -0600 Subject: [spambayes-dev] [Spambayes] Outlook express In-Reply-To: <493C4DC9.5080601@gmail.com> References: <6D57E24743DB4E2B83833591EBCF958F@DCA1> <18746.40706.599795.142335@montanaro-dyndns-org.local> <18747.4005.256630.620243@montanaro-dyndns-org.local> <2273.81.11.221.25.1228612951.squirrel@amedee.be> <493C4DC9.5080601@gmail.com> Message-ID: <18748.31863.806619.401764@montanaro-dyndns-org.local> >> The "Outlook Express" question seems to pop up a lot. I have no objection has long as I can contribute content with minimal or no extra software installed on my computer or mastered on my part. Authoring in ReStructuredText would be great. (Easy to read the source as well as the output.) Ideally, the website would be updated automatically as a side effect of Subversion checkin. This scheme works well for the python.org website. Thanks, and point taken. 8-) The wiki has needed a facelift for years, and an update to the main website would give me the kick up the arse that I need to crack on and do it. I'll be happy to upgrade it to the current version of MoinMoin, update the look and feel to match yours, and improve the navigational integration between the main site and the wiki. Richie, I suspect we could host it on the Python wiki site as well: http://wiki.python.org/ if you would like to unload the maintenance burden. [Skip] > I suspect we could host it on the Python wiki site as well: > http://wiki.python.org/ > if you would like to unload the maintenance burden. I'm happy to do the upgrade where it is, or for it to move. I think given the age of the current wiki software, doing a "proper" upgrade (or a proper move) would be a scary job. If I were to upgrade, I'd probably make a new installation of MoinMoin and just copy the current version of each page in there, keeping the old installation around somewhere for the archaeologists. 8-) None of the pages has changed in literally years. Likewise, the user database is chock-full of accounts created by spammers, so I would probably ditch it and ask the few "regulars" to re-register. Hence, an upgrade wouldn't be a big job for me, but also a move to another wiki wouldn't be a scary job either. The ongoing "maintenance burden" consists of clearing out spam, for which I have a script that does it for me, so that's no problem. (That script wouldn't port to another wiki, so I guess that's a reason for leaving it where it is... though I also guess that the Python wiki has the spam problem under control). I also take regular backups, but that's fully automated too. A better reason for leaving where it is is the ability to integrate it with Amedee's new website, if that comes to pass. We should be able to integrate the navigation structure of the website and the wiki so that they make up one unified site. In summary, I'm happy to leave it where it is and upgrade it (and in future, keep on top of upgrading it!), and do whatever's needed to integrate it with Amedee's new website. But if anyone feels strongly that the content should move into the Python wiki, I'm fine with that too. -- Richie Hindle richie at entrian.com
