I upgraded from Outlook 2007 to Outlook 2010 (32-bit) and from SpamBayes 1.0.4 to 1.1a6. I saw "error initializing the SpamBayes addin" each time I started up Outlook, but could enable it after that from the SpamBayes Manager. Installing in C:\SpamBayes didn't help. I think I've found a way to fix it, which perhaps provides a clue as to the problem. Instead of using my old Spam and Spam Suspects folders, I used new folders for this purpose when I reconfigured. Perhaps the folder configuration needs to be initialised differently for Outlook 2010 or SpamBayes 1.1 and that isn't updating when taking an existing folder. What I actually did was reinstall SpamBayes after moving the AppData\Roaming\SpamBayes (in the profile directory) out of the way so I started with a fresh configuration. Then I started Outlook and ran the configuration wizard. I previously had a Spam folder called "Folders\Spam", but this time used "Spam" in the mailbox top-level. Then I exited Outlook and copied my old SpamBayes default_bayes_database.db and default_message_database.db files into the SpamBayes data folder (to restore my previous training). Back in Outlook, I copied all the spam from the old Spam folder into the new one. I don't know how much of this procedure was necessary (maybe just a reconfigure is all that's needed), but the one thing that did seem to be required (after many tries) was picking new folders for the Spam and/or Spam Suspects. I hope this helps to diagnose the issue. Regards, Tim. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: AndreS (andreschmidts) Date: 2012-06-09 03:10 Message: Hello andrewcr, please note the new comment on http://spambayes.sourceforge.net/ Outlook 2010 Windows 7 1.1a6 1.1a6 A number of people have reported that SpamBayes will not work on Windows 7 unless you install it in a non-default location. Installing in C:\SpamBayes should do the trick. My Spambayes is running with W7, Outlook 2010 - great! Regards Andr? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Douglas Whitten (dewhitten) Date: 2011-06-10 12:50 Message: This is happening to me as well: A brand-new Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) OS, using Outlook 2010 (32-bit) and SpamBayes 1.1a6. The very first time I downloaded and installed SpamBayes it worked (opened Outlook, saw SpamBayes, ran training, etc). I then closed Outlook and re-opened. From that point on, I have been getting the same error pop-up reported here. There is no SpamBayes log file generated. I have tried enable/disable on the addon, uninstall/install on the addon. Neither has gotten rid of the problem. The addon IS listed as 'enabled' by Outlook. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=498103&aid=3180105&group_id=61702
