Under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Layers" (there are equivalent HKEY_CURRENT_USER keys), create a new string key, its name being the full path to the executable file you want to disable NX for, the value being "DisableNXShowUI" ...you'll notice that in the UI, only executable files can be added. This means that I had to select the "Outlook.exe" file to get Spambayes to work again. I tried adding the spambayes_addin.dll and the python23.dll paths to the registry as a workaround, but this didn't work... Also, if you are using Outlook 2003, you may need to re-enable the plug-in by deleting its resilliency key (the COM Add-in Manager won't remember the re-enable setting no matter how many times you try): http://groups.google.co.uk/groups? hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&safe=off&selm=uZ%24FJzyFEHA.3984% 40TK2MSFTNGP10.phx.gbl FYI, the same techniques work with Inboxer etc. I'm guessing, as tim_one said, it's to do with the Python libraries. Although my solution isn't going to identify the culprit, I have had a fix. 1) Since I needed XP only for Access, I uninstalled all of 2003 and XP including all add-ins. 2) I deleted all of the Microsoft Office folders in Program Files. 3) I went through the registry and deleted all keys related to Microsoft Office (unless they looked innocuous or clearly like they were related to Office 11 (since they would be coming back anyway). 4) I then reinstalled XP but limited it to Access and Visual Basic. 5) I then reinstalled every piece of 2003. I let the OfficeUpdate website update to SP2 and all other necessary updates (security and junk filters mostly). 6) Then I installed SpamBayes and MailAlert (the two add-ins). It has worked since. Although I must admit that I still hold my breath each time I press the "Spam" button to move any new Junk from the Suspected Junk folder. So far, so good. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: TJS (tjsortho) Date: 2006-02-03 11:04 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1442774 In my case, renaming the entire folder was the way to go, but I suspect that the real culprit was that it was loading the Office10 version of outlvba.dll from the office10\addins folder - just a guess. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: DBurk (dburk) Date: 2006-02-02 22:36 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1420863 Thanks to everyone for working through this. I tried to upgrade to version 1.0.4 to see if that would "kick-start: it, but that did nothing. PC had been running v 1.0, SpamBayes was trained and working, then suddenly it stopped filtering mail. Clicking the SpamBayes button on Outlook does nothing. I downloaded and installed 1.0.4 - no change. (After installation, starting Outlook took no special action -- as it did when I originally installed 1.0 earlier. I then uninstalled SpamBayes. The button still showed in Outlook [???]. I reinstalled 1.0.4 and still no difference. What I'm looking for from you: Is there a recommended way to uninstall SpanBayes? Should I even try? How do I get SpamBayes to function again? Can I do this without losing the knowledge of training? Unfortunately, I'm a little out of ideas (you could try posting on spambayes at python.org, as there are a few people there who don't monitor the trackers). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Marvin Levin (marvinlevin) Date: 2005-12-06 15:30 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1373596 What darrinm is seeing is similar to my original problem - after going through the "normal" methods to uninstall SpamBayes and to clear the Outlook add-in, the SpamBayes toolbar still was present but menus did not drop down. Subsequent attempts to re-install didn't help. FYI - In my case, this was all on a client's system and they decided not to bother and to just use the built-in filtering in Outlook 2003. So I never actually resolved the problem. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Darrin Massena (darrinm) Date: 2005-12-06 07:34 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1152884 My system DEP config is set to OptIn so and I doubt Outlook opts in but just in case I disabled DEP and gave it a try. At the same time another Outlook plugin, Newsgator, also stopped functioning. The two failures are somewhat different though. In the case of Newsgator, the plugin doesn't appear at all (on the toolbar). Spambayes appears on the toolbar but clicking on the "SpamBayes" button doesn't drop down the menu and clicking on the "Spam" button does nothing. I've verified that SpamBayes is not simply disabled by Outlook (at least it isn't listed in the "About Microsoft Outlook->Disabled Items" dialog) and that a simple setup.py install doesn't fix the problem. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Tony Meyer (anadelonbrin) Date: 2005-11-21 23:54 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=552329 Check to see if Outlook has disabled the plug-in. Help->About Microsoft Outlook->Disabled Items. The recommended way to uninstall SpamBayes is via the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel. This will not remove your training/configuration files. If you want to back up your training data, the FAQ outlines the files that you need. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=498104&aid=1348816&group_id=61702 From noreply at sourceforge.net Tue Feb 14 00:36:22 2006 From: noreply at sourceforge.net (SourceForge.net) Date: Mon, 13 Feb 2006 15:36:22 -0800 Subject: [spambayes-bugs] [ spambayes-Feature Requests-1431124 ] Spam Folder Message-ID: Feature Requests item #1431124, was opened at 2006-02-13 15:36 Message generated for change (Tracker Item Submitted) made by Item Submitter You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=498106&aid=1431124&group_id=61702 Please note that this message will contain a full copy of the comment thread, including the initial issue submission, for this request, not just the latest update. Unless there's something missing with Outlook's feature (and no-one has yet indicated that there is), there's no point in duplicating it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=498106&aid=1431124&group_id=61702 From noreply at sourceforge.net Sun Feb 19 19:08:18 2006 From: noreply at sourceforge.net (SourceForge.net) Date: Sun, 19 Feb 2006 10:08:18 -0800 Subject: [spambayes-bugs] [ spambayes-Support Requests-1434695 ] Database inconsistencies? Category: None Group: None Status: Open Priority: 5 Submitted By: Ira (ira01) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Database inconsistencies? Initial Comment: I am using Windows XP, with all updates, and Outlook 2003. Spam Bayes had been working with no problem. I have Binary version 1.0.4. Then problems arose which I could not solve using the suggestions on the troubleshooting guide regarding nonfunctioning buttons. Here is the problem: The "Delete As Spam" button ceased working. I thought Spam Bayes was otherwise working, so I followed those instructions in the troubleshooting guide, including eventually deletion of the "dat" file. The buttons were rebuilt but still did not work. It then occurred to me that actually Spam Bayes was not filtering reliably either, because it seems to me there is a much higher proportion of messages in the suspects folder than the junk folder, than had been true in the past. I consulted the log file as indicated in the troubleshooting guide, and it appears to me that the log file is indeed reporting errors. E.g., here are two excerpts from the log file: 1. WARNING: Bayes database has 4240 messages, but training database has 4071 pythoncom error: Python error invoking COM method. 2. bsddb._db.DBRunRecoveryError: (-30982, 'DB_RUNRECOVERY: Fatal error, run database recovery -- fatal region error detected; run recovery') Moving and spam training message 'In debt you can get help today' - Training on message 'In debt you can get help today' in 'Ira Ellman/Junk Suspects - pythoncom error: Python error invoking COM method. Help would be appreciated! Thank you. I've experienced all the toolbar crashes everyone has been talking about (spam, unsure spam properly separated out, but clicking anything in toolbar causes Outlook to shut down). I've tried every combination I could think of with DEP and the results are identical. I've rebooted and reloaded Spambayes each time to be sure. Is there another thread of suggestions on what I can try? Thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Tom Hopper (thopper) Date: 2006-02-21 07:55 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=517598 I, too, have experienced the crash described. Here's the good news: I renamed every Office10 folder to Office10X. Spambayes now works! Here's the bad news: I have Access from Office 10 and still need to use it. But I'll use the renaming exercise to see if I can figure out which folder is the culprit. Maybe I don't need the folder for Access? I'll keep working on it, but it's nice to have a direction! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: mdotstacey (mdotstacey) Date: 2006-02-02 18:56 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1421388 Thanks tjsortho!
