Summary: Outlook/ZipMagic Incompatibility

Initial Comment:
I use ZipMagic to handle Zip files under Win2K.

If I turn zipmagic on, it permanently crashes
SpamBayes with the following logfile message:

Addin terminating: 2 COM client and 2 COM servers
exist.

Please read the comments more closely. The fix has been
made for inclusion in the *1.1 version* of SpamBayes.

There are no immediate plans to backport this fix to the 1.0
version. However, we do intend to put out a maintenance
release of 1.0 at some point and we will make a
determination on which changes from the 1.1 version should
be included in that maintenance release.

Verision 1.0 still has this issue. Spam Bayes fails completely,
and must be uninstalled/reinstalled to work again.

It still doesn't work on version 1.0. If zipfolders are turned
on while Outlook is running, spambayes has to be
uninstalled/ reinstalled to get it to work again.

This has been fixed in latest CVS. Changes will probably not
appear in the binary installer until the first 1.1 alpha release.

Yes, I have seen the same message as in bug #941639, but
in the previous version. I did not see this message anywhere
this time.

What may be the difference is that I usually leave ZipMagic
off, and turn it on only to create a .ZIP file.

The attached logfile shows a perfectly normal execution of
SpamBayes, ending with a normal exit from SpamBayes when
Outlook is closed. What is the error that you are seeing?
Does it happen when you first start Outlook with ZipMagic's
ZipFolders enabled? What happens if you disable ZipFolders
before loading Outlook, and then reenable after Outlook and
SpamBayes are loaded and running? The logfile you uploaded
is "spambayes4.log". There should be 3 more recent logfiles
named "spambayes1.log", "spambayes2.log",
and "spambayes3.log". Can you find those?

Please refer to bug #941639. It sounds like you are getting
further than the user who submitted that bug, but maybe the
logfile you uploaded was generated when ZipFolders was
disabled? Do any of the symptons there sound at all familiar?

Windows XP has a shell extension that will allow you to see
the contents of a zip file in a "folder-like" view, but unlike
ZipMagic it does not make the zip file look like a normal folder
to other programs that directly access the file system.

I have attached the logfile, but the message I posted is the
only thing that looks like an error

The most likely reason for the crash is that the zip
file "spambayes.zip" (or any other zip file used by
spambayes) becomes a folder when zipmagic is activated.

A similar feature is actually included with windows XP.

The logfile message you show is a normal message that is
written to the logfile whenever you exit Outlook, so it's
difficult to guess where the problem is. Are there any
tracebacks or other error messages earlier in the logfile? It
would be helpful if you could attach your complete logfile to
this bug report.
