[SciPy-user] Interpreter behavior

I just updated my installation of numpy/scipy using the Superpack for
Mac OS 10.5. However, doing so seems to have disabled interactive input
editing and history substitution in the python interpreter (that's the
feature that allows the use of up and down keys to scroll through recent
commands, as well as other line editing features). Does anyone know how
to re-enable this feature and if it's possible to prevent future updates
from disabling it again?
