[SciPy-user] SciPy vs numpy

This may seem like a really dumb question, but:
  If I have SciPy, do I need numpy?
  Then, in code that has numpy.xxx, can I simply replace it with scipy.xxx?
   
  The reason I ask is that I could not locate a debian package of numpy for my Xandros Networks to install.  Then it occurred to me that maybe I didn't need numpy anyway.  Is this correct?
