[SciPy-user] Maximal element of a matrix

Is there a function for determining the largest element of a matrix in
scipy? Max nor maximum
cut it, so I have no idea. What does maximum do anyway? Documentation on it
is rather
minimal, help(scipy.maximum) just returns <ufunc 'maximum'>, not very
helpful.
