[SciPy-user] building with local libraries

Rob,

I don't know the answer to your general question, however, in the  
case of my scipy installation, the builder couldn't find the FFTW  
libraries after I had successfully installed them. The solution for  
me was to reconfigure/make FFTW after having forced use of the gcc  
3.3 compiler via 'sudo gcc_select 3.3.'

It would seem that gcc 4 (at least on Tiger) does not correctly  
handle certain links. I have seen this mentioned on several forums  
including the archives of this mailing list but I do not understand  
what the specific problem is.
