It has been fixed, see <http://www.python.org/sf/1091468>. The fix is 
in 2.3.5 and will be in the forthcoming 2.4.1.

I don't think I've ever done fixes that needed so many things changed 
in so many places, for the benefit of so few users. But then, I myself 
am one of those few:-)
