I have successfully gotten PyQt built on OS X, and I have cobbled
together a little applet bundle of the Eric3 IDE for PyQt. Bob had
attempted this about a year ago, but decided not to add PyQt to the
PackMan database because of various problems. I'm not sure what problems
he encountered, but I haven't yet run into any (I built my stuff against
version 3.3.3 of Qt).

I'm wondering if there would be any interest in making these packages
available in some fashion. Building them is straightforward, but they
take a long time. Part of the problem is that Qt has to be patched to
support QScintilla (the text component of PyQt), so a vanilla
installation of Qt from, say, DarwinPorts won't work (though you
probably could patch the qt_mac.h file after the fact). I'd be reluctant
to make the entire package available from my server, as everything would
be a massive download; Eric3 is 12 megabytes by itself, and I could make
that package available with no problem.
