Thank-you both for your warnings. However, these have to be balanced 
against my own trepidations about managing two python installations. 
Furthermore, I believe Apple is very unlikely to change the current 
Python 2.2 in Jaguar, and besides, I fully expect to upgrade to Panther 
(hence Python 2.3) when it becomes available. Anyway, I've made the 
substitution, and all seems well. Thanks again for your help.
