Maybe that's a matter of taste, but so far I found all nonmodal find/replace dialogs I've seen rather inconvenient. (Besides, on may iBook's tiny 800x600 screen, it wouldn't really make a difference if the find dialog were nonmodal, because it almost occupies the entire screen anyway...)

And the commands in the Search menu provide find/replace functionality in a nonmodal way.
