could anyone give me an idea on how to access the clipboard

what I want to do is copy something to the clipboard and when I activate my
program it reads it and mods it


example:

getclipboard(text)
read(text)

that is it that is about all I want to do.

PS I just came up against another wall in my python learning I never have had
experience with object oreinted programing does anyone know of a book that
can get me up to speed on oop?
