I have to download the stuff through a 14k4 modem. I don't mind having one-stop-shopping, but please make them separately ftp'able files: - Python binary distribution, including library - Python source, complete, including library, with projects, resources already un-binhexed - Tcl sources - Tk sources - GUSI sources - Morefiles sources - stdwin (does anyone still use this on the Mac?) - img library - pbm - jpeg --Guido van Rossum URL: ================= PYTHONMAC-SIG - SIG on Python for the Apple Macintosh send messages to: pythonmac-sig@python.org administrivia to: pythonmac-sig-request@python.org ================= From just@knoware.nl Mon Apr 1 17:58:36 1996 From: just@knoware.nl (Just van Rossum) Date: Mon, 1 Apr 1996 19:58:36 +0200 Subject: [PYTHONMAC-SIG] Compile under CW8? I use the py documentation as html off line, but some of the file names are too long. Quite a problem, because even when I get those files, all the links to them don't work. Specific sad example: Macintosh_Specific_Services.html Is this fixable in the next release? Hmm, that *is* going a bit far: that would make an archive of about 15-20Mb all together. How about the following: in one directory, I put the Python source distribution plus separate files (pulled off my harddisk) with the various libraries I used (stdwin, tcl/tk, gusi, jpeg, pbm/tiff, morefiles). Then, people can choose whether they'll download all 7 archives (which should get them up-and-running immedeately) or whether they can skip some of the stuff because they have it online already (in which case they might have to shuffle some of the search paths in CW). > (Thanks, Dennis, for the suggestion of > looking up SunTar. One of the problems I kept having with suntar is that it can't seem to remember all my extension->creator/type mappings (I need a few for .c, .h, .py, .pyc, .gif and various other types). Tarmac uses internet config for this, which is really handy. Also, it's freeware, and Tim has been very responsive to questions (despite the fact that he doesn't make money on it). Yes: does anyone still use this? If not (I'll also ask in the Python newsgroup) I would like to drop it. It would also shave quite a bit off the 68K interpreter (not as important for PPC or for the mythical once-to-come cfm68k interpreter, but a boon for current 68k versions). -- Jack Jansen | ++++ stop the execution of Mumia Abu-Jamal ++++ Jack.Jansen@cwi.nl | ++++ if you agree copy these lines to your sig ++++ http://www.cwi.nl/~jack | see http://www.xs4all.nl/~tank/spg-l/sigaction.htm ================= PYTHONMAC-SIG - SIG on Python for the Apple Macintosh send messages to: pythonmac-sig@python.org administrivia to: pythonmac-sig-request@python.org ================= From Jack.Jansen@cwi.nl Tue Apr 9 21:07:16 1996 From: Jack.Jansen@cwi.nl (Jack Jansen) Date: Tue, 09 Apr 1996 22:07:16 +0200 Subject: [PYTHONMAC-SIG] Preliminary MacPython introduction available Message-ID: <9604092007.AA25650=jack@schelvis.cwi.nl> I've thrown together an introduction to MacPython, to be included in the next distribution. I've named this distribution 1.3.3- (the joys of version-numbering:-), because I expect to release a real 1.3.3 shortly, as soon as I've got Tcl and Tk tamed again. The distribution should have all the relevant Python sources and projects, plus pointers to the various other packages (gusi, tcl/tk, etc) needed. Documentation on how to build python is also available (as is quite a bit of other new documentation and example code). I am only advertising this distribution here for the moment. It can be found at . Note that building Python from source is quite a bit of work. Still, if at least one or two people could try it and tell me what I missed that would be very helpful. -- Jack Jansen | ++++ stop the execution of Mumia Abu-Jamal ++++ Jack.Jansen@cwi.nl | ++++ if you agree copy these lines to your sig ++++ http://www.cwi.nl/~jack | see http://www.xs4all.nl/~tank/spg-l/sigaction.htm ================= PYTHONMAC-SIG - SIG on Python for the Apple Macintosh send messages to: pythonmac-sig@python.org administrivia to: pythonmac-sig-request@python.org =================
