BTW I still find that most Tkinter programs (even from my simple experimentation) crash part of the PocketPC OS on exit. Not only that but I'm 'confused' about which python distribution is the 'latest and best' when it comes to working with Tkinter and python 2.3 for pocketPC... can anyone help clear up my confusion ? Having said that I very much appreciate the fact that I can code and test on my pocketPC..... what would really be good is a text editor that handled the indentation properly (insert 4 spaces isntead of tabs - maintain indent position when hitting enter etc), python syntax highlighting would be a real bonus......... Anyon know of such a beast ? Next on the wish list would be a pythonCE version of py2exe for creating standalone distributables - now that Tkinter is working (*ahem* at least nearly on my machine) creating proper python pocketPC applications becomes a real possibility. Anyon know of such a beast ? > I've been trying to get IDLE to work, but so far to no avail. Last problem I had had to do with the missing random module, since that is now in the distribution as well I might give it another go... Of course there will be some substantial issues with IDLE running on 240x320 (for instance part of the toolbar won't fit on the screen ;), but I'll try to at least get the editor to edit and save... Also I wonder how it will perform, syntax coloring was very slow on the last versions I tried and since the PPC is quite slow already I expect that will be a problem... Anyway, I'll let you know if I make any progress. (BTW don't expect it to be done this week or anything, I'm very busy at the moment working on other projects) Cheers, Guido From chronowarper at netscape.net Mon Jan 5 13:15:20 2004 From: chronowarper at netscape.net (Jeffrey Nix) Date: Mon Jan 5 13:15:30 2004 Subject: [PythonCE] Numeric Python Message-ID: <5E91FB1A.6180AFFC.6D297EDE@netscape.net> I have worked on Numeric python and numarray. So far I have gotten all of numarray to compile except libteacup (if I remember correctly) and the issue is related to time if I remember correctly. But as for Numeric if I get around to it I'll get it done. But no promises there's lots of other things Python that are higher on my priority list. __________________________________________________________________ New! I have looked in the time module and seen the time.clock() and time.time() functions. But on my machine (Pocket PC running Python Ver. 2.3.2) it doesn't return anything less than seconds. And they both return the same thing, (the full time since ??? In seconds). If someone can please point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated. I have never programmed in any other language before besides PocketC) --------------- Isr Gish From milis at pipit.ath.cx Thu Jan 8 22:43:29 2004 From: milis at pipit.ath.cx (pipit) Date: Thu Jan 8 22:43:38 2004 Subject: [PythonCE] asking python on window mobile 2003 [2nd] Message-ID: <3860682697.20040109104329@pipit.ath.cx> second post :( ====================== Dear all, sorry if repeat silly question. I've never used time.time() before though. >>> import random, time >>> def timeSort(l): start = time.clock() l.sort() print "Sort Time:", (time.clock() - start) * 1000, "milliseconds" >>> randList = [random.random() for i in range(100000)] >>> timeSort(randList) Sort Time: 190.0 milliseconds >>> # you don't want to print that huge time.clock() returns a time in seconds as a floating point number (see help(time.clock)) to as much precision as the system provides, so I think that should satisfy your requirement (if you want milliseconds, just multiply by 1000 as I did in the example). Hope that helps...
