Note that this is a week earlier than usual because of the Easter holiday. The meeting will run from 19:00 - 21:00, although doors will be open at the GIST Lab from 18:30. The GIST Lab is located opposite Sheffield train station and behind the Showroom cinema: http://thegisthub.net/groups/gistlab This month it'll be a coding session, where we'll be working our way through the Python Koans, which are an interactive tutorial for learning Python by making tests pass. We'll be pairing up to work our way through the Koans, so if you'd like to join us, bring a laptop along if you can. At our last meeting three days ago we had 13 people attending. Registration for the next meeting is now open at: http://pysheff1104.eventbrite.com/ For more information on the Python Sheffield group, follow @pysheff on Twitter or join the Google group: http://groups.google.com/group/python-sheffield Thanks, Daley Chetwnd -- -- http://www.fastmail.fm - Accessible with your email software or over the web From dan at pitchup.com Thu Apr 14 11:29:44 2011 From: dan at pitchup.com (Dan Yates) Date: Thu, 14 Apr 2011 10:29:44 +0100 Subject: [python-uk] Django freelancers required at award-winning start-up Message-ID: Pitchup.com is creating *the* online portal for booking camping and caravanning breaks, a market which is booming as Brits switch to domestic holidays - 80% more Brits now go camping than holiday in Spain. Message-ID: <1303981549.2587.10.camel@ntoll-ubuntu> Hi Folks, The next London Python Code Dojo will be a week from now on the 5th May 2011 starting with pizza and beer at 6:30pm followed by coding at 7:30ish. Location and booking details can be found here: https://ldnpydojo.eventwax.com/london-python-code-dojo-season-2-episode-9 After discussion with various people we've decided to do a "suggest a problem/vote" dojo rather than continue with the game we're writing for the inter-language dojo. (We'll attempt to keep development going on that outside dojo sessions and only re-introduce it when we've got something to show for ourselves.) Nevertheless, that shouldn't stop you from suggesting fun game related problems for us to tackle - we'll simply vote on what seems like the most interesting problem to tackle on the night. Also, if you have a lightning talk you want to give at the start drop me a line and I'll add you to the website as an "attraction". :-) Tickets generally go like hot cakes (we've been sold out every dojo since the new year) so book early to avoid disappointment. Looking forward to it and hopefully see you there! Nicholas. Web APIs, REST and Django Tom Christie, Tuesday May 10, 2011, 19:00 at The Skiff This talk will cover some of the basics of the REST architectural style - what it is and what its benefits are. It'll also cover some of the thornier aspects of implementing RESTful Web APIs, touch on some areas that are still often misunderstood, and will finish by taking a look at building RESTful APIs with Django. * Why REST? * Caching - What we're (still) doing wrong. * Content Negotiation - One resource, many representations. * Why we ought to be building Web browse-able APIs - A call to arms. * Web APIs & Django - What tools are and aren't in the box? * Introduction to Django REST framework. * The take home - Where do we go from here? http://brightonpy.org/meetings/2011-05-10/ Cheers Jamie From David_J_Pearson at uk.ibm.com Sat Apr 30 17:04:02 2011 From: David_J_Pearson at uk.ibm.com (David J Pearson) Date: Sat, 30 Apr 2011 16:04:02 +0100 Subject: [python-uk] AUTO: David J Pearson Is Away Due To Public Holidays In UK (returning 03/05/2011) Message-ID: I am out of the office until 03/05/2011.
