Hesitantly, because this is the Python mailing list, I claim (a) ':' is
simpler than r'([^:]*):([^:]*):(\d+):(\d+):([^:]*):([^:]*):(.*)$', and
(b) string.split covers pretty much the same edge cases as re.search.
