ite is the -te form (in some uses like a gerundium) of aru
(to go, to walk)

so, to un-go, revert-the-having-gone-ness, I genuinely wonder ...

On the other hand, Japanese is full of wondrous word-play at
levels undreamt of by us ASCIInarians.
