Fortunately, not everyone has to respond snarkily.

Richard, once you join a mailing list, ALL posts sent to it will come
to your inbox. But what you do with them after that is up to you. I
recommend configuring your mail client to filter the messages to their
own folder (or equivalent - if you're using Gmail, their own "tag"),
so you can then read them or ignore them at will, without them
cluttering up your main inbox.
