It sounds like you want to add a lot of helpful transparency into your task runner which is awesome, however, have you taken a look at Celery?

Celery also comes with a monitoring tool (Flower - http://celery.readthedocs.org/en/latest/userguide/monitoring.html?highlight=flower#flower-real-time-celery-web-monitor)

This may satisfy what you're looking for without having to write your own management and monitoring system.
